A year ago we said that sooner or later, Nomy would be heard by fans across the entire universe, having at that time already peaked on the Spotify world toplist with over 42 million plays. Well that listener base has moved up to over 60 million plays, and it just keeps growing stronger every day; that, of course, apart from his Grammy nomination in 2011.
Patrick Marquardt is the man behind Nomy, a rock producer who hails from Sweden. With over ten releases to date, Marquardt sets the bar high with this one-man act. Nomy has continuously refused to sign any contract with any record companies due to his desire to pursue his passion for music independently. Considering his success rate based on the figures we’ve just read, there’s no doubt that Nomy is an independent artist on a serious mission to succeed, having already taking the world by storm with the many releases from his home studio.
For those who have not yet had a taste of the excellent, high quality alternative rock music that Nomy produces and need something to get the adrenaline running, then “Psychopath” the latest work by this talented and determined artist is just what you need.
The album contains ten tracks of sheer firepower, kicking off with the anthemically rampant “Chaos”, which sets the tone for the rest of the album. But over and above the driving rhythms, the heavy crunching guitar riffs and the metal-screaming vocals, Nomy infuses each track with unforgettable melodies and ear-catching musical timbres. Which I feel, is the ‘secret’ to his success story. The sound formula is similar to the ‘soft-then-loud-then-soft-again’ theory, that major league bands, like for example Linkin Park, have built a legend upon. In fact Nomy’s vocals is on the very same level as that of Chester Bennington which should give you a measure of the artist.
This album is the epitome of alternative rock exploited to its fullest potential. Not only is every song just as good as the next, it keeps you wanting even more. Songs that Nomy should certainly claim to fame include “Chaos”, “Psychopath”, “Long Way Down”, “The Way You Fly”, “Breathe Out” and my favorite “Looking Back”, simply because I’m crazy about ballads. All-round the music is intense and definitely puts you in the mood to get “rowdy”. Albums usually contain 2 or 3 songs that are listened to continually, this album is the exception because every song is worthy of being played over and over.
Every song has an incredible amount of atmosphere and sound layered into it at just the right moments. This is by far one of the best independent alternative rock albums to come out in recent years. I think I said that about Nomy’s previous album too, but we need to let truth be truth!
This is one of those albums that you have to pick up. I think people who have heard 2013’s “Free fall” have already picked it up. If this is not you then go PICK IT UP! This is one of the best rock albums around. Heavy stuff with great melody that sounds fantastic in your speakers. Crank this bad boy up and go along for this great ride!
