Natalie Jean who is currently based in Kensington, MD, grew up loving music.  She enjoyed singing with her Haitian father, Guy R. Jean – who was a famous Haitian artist himself – and her love for music further blossomed when she began to write her own poetry. Natalie takes inspiration from her daily life and hopes to touch the lives of others through her music. She is also able to sing in French, Spanish, and Creole.

This year, Natalie Jean’s songs have received over 20 nominations, including the Artists in Music Awards, LA Music Awards, The Indie Music Channel Awards, The Indees, American Songwriting Awards, Hollywood Music and Media Awards, and the Akademia Music Awards.  She was named one of the Top Five Vocalists in the Singer Universe Vocalist of the Month for June 2014.

The ability to tell a story, capture an emotion, a mood, hone it and share it like a secret with her audience; these are the qualities that make Natalie Jean so special. Comfortable in a variety of genres, on this self-titled album she casts her net into the smooth and mellow sounds of piano-driven, jazz-influenced compositions, in search of inspiration.

This album is a far cry from Natalie’s works from 2013, which frankly did not impress me as much. She has matured her craft and lifted her emotional quotient substantially since then. She has moved up and out of the common urban pop idiom into a class of her own.

“Natalie Jean” is a strong and most enjoyable collection of twelve tasteful jazz songs with a couple of blues numbers thrown in for good measure, consistently beautifully and lyrically piano-worked, centered by her able, husky and carefully controlled voice. All the songs without exception are of the same high standard. And if you’re on the lookout for standouts then look no further than “You Are My Everything”, “My Man”, “In The Mood”, “Misbehaving”, “I’m Not Ready” and “I Found You”.

What makes this album so special? Natalie Jean’s impeccably refreshing, relaxing and soothing vocal interpretations; the tasteful choice of material and the sublime musical arrangements. The spare instrumental backdrop showcases Natalie’s clarity, range, and depth, layered with a magical sultriness that tugs at the heart.

Indeed, there are so many bright lights on this album that you can expect to be dazzled. Consider this album as a gift of love for anyone who appreciates jazz greats from Ella and Lena to Billie!
