From Oklahoma City, IvyLeague’s12 is blasting off 2014 with the tune that’s a narrative of his love of labels coupled with his passion for the hustle. Shoebox Deposits features guest collaborator, “Stick”, who adds an edgy perspective and idiosyncratic flair. The beat features an electric, digitized mix of head noddin’ rhythms that you can vibe to all year.
IvyLeague’s 12 really surprised me with this one. He has so many anthems and he spits so many quotables, you’ll truly find something in his catalog that’ll you enjoy. On Shoebox Deposits what he does is give you sick metaphors and witty punch lines, and what many of his so-called lyrically-superior peers lack; tons of charisma and a great ear for beats, which make for entertaining music.
Although you have more than likely heard every aspect of hustling covered, you can’t deny 12’s energy and the rawness of the production. He is so unique as a rapper from his voice to his flow and wordplay. His flow is so confident literally making you hang on to every word. His voice is easily recognizable, while his lyrics are simple yet somehow insanely tight, as well as catchy with double meanings all through the lyrics. 12 is a true game spitter.
If you’re familiar with 12’s previous releases then you should have known that he was going to kill this one! For the uninitiated like myself, well I was a little hesitant when I first came across this dude, because I wasn’t too fond of his style straight off the bat, but he quickly grew on me after a couple of spins.
The production is great and the beat fit his style of lyrics perfectly on Shoebox Deposits too. Checkout IvyLeague’s 12 if you’ve been less than pleased with a lot of the rap offerings in 2013. He is the real deal for 2014, there can be no doubt about it.
