Darcy Jeavons is an award-winning songwriter, born and raised in Southern California. As well as being a solo artist, she is part of the songwriting duo Yates & Jeavons, teaming up with Jason Mark Yates in Worcester, England. Darcy also collaborates with other talented musicians from around the world. Darcy earned a BA in Music from the Cole Conservatory at California State University, Long Beach, and is currently studying Music Production with Berklee College of Music in Boston.
At first glance Darcy Jeavons would seem an unlikely talent for a collection of 20th Century pop divas with their ‘Autotuned’ radio hits, but her unique vocals and quality of music, offers an organic, acoustic-driven ambience that sets her apart. She has a sound that has the feel of a smoky intimate nightclub, where the singer sits on a spotlighted stool, surrounded by silhouettes of a bare-bones band, while she sings powerfully and passionately…only for you!
The single “If You Were Mine” is an incredible recording. On it, Darcy demonstrates a range of emotion that transcends today’s more typical vocal gymnastics. Hers is a combination of brass tacks and heart that recalls the great Folk or Rhythm & Blues singers of the past, but which somehow never sounds anything less than absolutely contemporary.
To not be affected when Darcy Jeavons sings “If You Were Mine” indicates that you’re very possibly made of stone. The emotion is genuine, the technique is flawless. This woman is incredible. As I casually ran through her catalog, she surprised me with a selection of gorgeous songs, both originals and collaborations, all performed with her impeccable interpretation.
“If You Were Mine”, was the first time I have ever heard Darcy sing and it was a revelation. Her music is a must-have for anyone who’s got a taste for classic, timeless songwriting, for an era when a great set of honest-to-goodness performances meant something, when a singer-songwriter could turn a simple get-together into a flawless romantic evening. I haven’t stopped listening to Darcy Jeavons in days, and don’t expect to stop now!
