Andrew Jhavery aka Chung Nation is an electronic music producer from Sydney Australia, who also has a penchant for using real instruments in his tracks, “I really want to use more real instruments in future releases, I think it’s where electronic music is headed,” he says. On his latest ambient-chillout track, “We Will Rise”, you will hear the ethereal vocals of Mookhi, who herself is a music producer.
This is music that draws you right in. Many of the sounds merge into each other, creating an ongoing aural tapestry. It always feels totally organic, never self-conscious or calculated, and powerful yet soothing at the same time. It’s about breaking down boundaries, erasing limitations and bringing together what would otherwise be considered as impossible within in wide open spaces.
Apart from the inventiveness and Zen-like production values, Chung Nation delivers that unique – and often elusive -‘aural atmosphere’ which only comes from the best talents, making “We Will Rise” one of those tracks which you can listen to over and over again, and still find something new in the mix, where layered instrumentals segue into beautiful vocals.
It is powerful, credible, emotionally empathetic music; wonderfully engineered and produced; containing a balanced mix of lush rhythms and melodies that harmoniously combine Chung Nation’s ‘non-abrasive’ electronica with Mookhi’s celestial vocals.
“I’ve been obsessed with space and the idea of this huge universe we live in since I was a kid,” said Chung Nation in a recent interview, continuing, “I wanted to write a track that was a little more chilled with layers and layers of music that still felt pretty ambient, that just sounded big and airy, and made you feel like you were going on a journey to space.”
From the first listen it is clear that Chung Nation really has done what he intended with this effort. It’s just such a perfect track that can both chill you out or give you a real lift, depending on your mood. It has a great beat and a beautiful melody, which are the two key requirements for a great song. Moreover it veers into ethereal ambience, giving it that ‘big and airy’ sound Chung Nation set out to create in the first place. Once listened to I’m sure “We Will Rise” will be one track you keep going to, as it’s got a wide appeal.
Hard work, meticulous attention to detail, passion, talent and a determination to produce something special all combined with the beautiful and stunning voice of Mookhi. Not many releases can be classed as absolute essentials; even fewer can be categorized as being at the top of those. Chung Nation’s “We Will Rise” has earned that spot!
