Since declaring his status as a full-time and pro-musician in 2005, Chris Bartlett has immersed himself in every possible angle of the music industry and has truly set a new standard with his unwavering commitment to make music involved in every part of his life.
In between the years of 2008-2010, Chris stepped into the spotlight on the live stage, fronting the band Soul Stash and sharing the stage with some of music’s most massive names like Wyclef Jean, REHAB, Sugar Ray and Velvet Revolver at the height of their popularity.
Chris has taken his unique blend of American Folk/Soul/Southern Rock to more than 70 countries around the world. His first solo EP – The Truth – was released in the first half of 2011 and at the beginning of 2014 he released his first full-length acoustic record, Dogs In The Water. Today Chris Bartlett continues to play an average of 300+ shows on an annual basis, in addition to recording albums and taking on countless projects, contributing to the work and efforts of others.
On “FOLLOW”, the first single off the album “Dogs In The Water”, Chris’ voice –raspy and melodic, like hot bourbon poured over honey -comes on like potent medicine, stamping the music like a branding iron stamps cowhide, marking it with the power and charisma that never fails to impress every time he opens his mouth. The magnetism of this man’s voice is impressive, and is perhaps the greatest draw to his music, if you can resist the way he strums an acoustic guitar!
Chris Bartlett’s inclination towards acoustic- guitar driven, southern style, straight-ahead rock n’ roll, together with his voice, has been given full rein here. The amazing thing is that this track can easily crossover on Rock, Top 40 and Adult Contemporary radio, without as much as a hiccup. The reason I went straight into investigation mode, trying to find everything that this man had ever done.
The “Truth” EP displayed how Bartlett and his enrapturing voice could both excite and move me. From heart pounding rock songs, to soft soulful ballads, it was as if there was a song tailor-made for my every mood.
“FOLLOW”, delivers those feeling yet again. A pulse racing, blood boiling effort that literally had me rolling down the windows of my car blaring it at maximum volume. Bartlett’s sound, style and overall musical aura, reminds so much of a cross between two of my favorite artists – the Counting Crows and Hootie & the Blowfish – both so terribly underrated and ignored by the mainstream media. In particular Hootie, who never ever received the amount of success and critical acclaim they so rightly deserved.
Not a year goes by that I don’t listen to their “Cracked Rear View” album for weeks on end – and I’ve been doing this since 1995! “Let Her Cry” and “Hold My Hand” have such a mesmerizing, magnetic magic in the vocals that is just impossible to resist. That very same magic is extremely palpable to me on “FOLLOW”.
This is undoubtedly a strong single, full of rich lyrics, powerful vocals and a catchy, emotional tune. “FOLLOW” definitely shows that Chris Bartlett’s star is firmly on the rise!
