Chip Brokem: “Weight on Me” – a fresh and creative urban sound!

Chip Brokem is a 21 year-old artist, raised in South Seattle who has been rapping since he was 9. On one of his latest releases, “Weight On Me”, Chip was originally not going to sing or use the autotune effect on the track. However he liked the outcome of the sound so much that came with the DRMZBeatz produced beat, he ended up doing both!

“Weight on Me” is from the mixtape is titled “ALTL’ also known as “A Little Too Late”. It has a great production and unique vocals. Chip Brokem is at his best when he’s singing/rapping. I think this style gives him a sound that’s different than your typical Pop/R&B star. I wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised.

“Weight on Me” is straight fire, as Chip Brokem excels with the lyrics and vocal delivery. The dude might be an underdog right now because his not well-known yet, but I doubt it will remain this way for too long if he keeps releasing tracks of this caliber.

Chip Brokem knows what he is good at. He varies the track up and down enough to not allow for you to become bored or stagnant with his style. His production choice and lyrics clearly make up for the rest. “Weight on Me” pulls you in and makes you feel like he is taking you on a story. A story where you wonder how much is personal experience and how much is just creative writing.

Honestly, I did not see this one coming. Especially knowing how casually and spontaneously this track came together. Many artists spend months in the studio to create a vibe that seems to have come quite naturally to Chip Brokem. I think he’s a strong songwriter and singer, so his choice to stick with singing this track was a good one, while the autotune effect is used tastefully and gives the song a nice, intense and mellow vibe.

I have a thing for slow jams, so “Weight on Me” was just up my alley. Chip Brokem’s style reminds me of the creativity of Pharrell Williams, the vocal vibe of The Script, and the beats of Timberland. If you want an escape from the average urban sound, you need “Weight on Me” in your life!
