Arika Kane has sailed into the music industry collecting fans & successes since the release of her first single, “Bcuz I Luv U” in 2009. With passionate lyrics, infectious harmonies & soothing instrumentation, “Nostalgic ear-candy” are not the only words a buzz about Miss Kane. Arika’s luminous appeal is undeniable, and her music, rooted from rhythm & blues has a universal, and commercial sound that speaks to the masses.
Growing up in a small rural town in Connecticut, Kane’s parents were both singers & musicians. They enjoyed gigging on the weekends as they had to pursue jobs during the week to support Arika & her brother. Kane became familiar with the joy & passion for music early on, and started singing at 10 years old. Influenced by her father’s songwriting, Kane also connected with her songwriting ability later on & is now very proud to be co-writer on each song off of her current debut album. Arika is influenced by artists such as Aaliyah, Janet & Michael Jackson, Dru Hill, Aerosmith, Jodeci, Survivor, Shania Twain, Mariah Carey & Tamia. Kane also has a grand appreciation for legends such as Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Etta James & Quincy Jones.
With 1,000,000 digital downloads sold from her self-entitled debut album, “Arika Kane” released in August of 2010, the spotlight is shining vigorously. She has reached #2 on Amazon for R&B downloads, and #18 on ITunes for R&B downloads. Kane’s sophomore single, “ 4 the Lovers “ charted in Billboard # 7 Single Sales, # 19 R&B Airplay & # 80 in Billboard Hot 100. Her follow up soulful ballad “ Here With Me “ also charted in Billboard # 4 Single Sales, # 14 R&B Airplay & # 67 in Billboard Hot 100. The UAC Mediabase charts placed Arika Kane & BSE Recordings as the #1 Independent artist & label in the country for 20 weeks straight.

Arika Kane’s new album “SUBSTANCE” has just been released and is available on iTunes. We gave it a close listen.
This 14-track Pop/R&B offering which includes a Club extended mix of ‘Let Go’ and a hiphop mix of ‘Fight For Your Life’, straddles the stylistic divide between the modern, club-oriented R&B of contemporaries like Ne-Yo, Jessie Malay, Tamia and the more classic soul of Alicia Keys.
Throughout the album, Kane adopts her own smooth and evocative style of the melismatic deliveries ever-present in the vocal virtuosity of divas like Mary Jane Blige, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys, without however over-stepping any vocal boundaries or falling into the trap of self-adulation.
Add this to the fact that Ms.Kane is free of the constraints and requirements of a major label, resulting in a soulful, heartfelt, realistic mix of up-tempo songs and beautiful, heart wrenching ballads.
Up tempo highlights on “SUBSTANCE” include the funky dance tracks ‘Fight 4 Ur Life’, ‘Feel It Too’ and ‘Not Givin’. While our favorite down tempo heart breakers are, ‘Just A Plus’, ‘Be Ur Woman’ and ‘No More’.
Our all out favorite of course, being the emotional ‘Bcuz Ur Lonely’ which has also been released as a single by her record company ‘BIG SCORE ENTERTAINMENT’.
‘SUBSTANCE’ is almost the perfect R&B album; cool, sexy, inventive and suitably stylish throughout. It has a strong cross genre appeal, with soulsters able to dig the raw emotion in Arika Kane’s voice, while R&B folks can slip and slide to the sleek beats and lyrics garnishing all tracks.
There is an abundance of good tunes on here, with a solid but never overpowering musical production that compliments Arika Kane’s vocal style perfectly.
And whoever put the album together has made a great song selection too.
