Born November 30th, 1992. The 2k Boyz are more than just your usual “rap group” putting rhymes together to make a song. Identical twin brothers Kay & Kai share a unique bond that’s quite inevitable once you hear their music. From the compatible tone of their voices to the timely switch of verses, they are anything but typical. The twins even spent a month in a Juvenile Detention Center when they were younger. Not to advertise any wrong doings, just a testament to their loyal relationship.
Today the 2k Boyz perform at night clubs & schools around Connecticut and their vision is to be recognized as a great Hip-Hop duo. Despite their personal hardships, they’ve maintained a “starving artist” work ethic that can only lead to success. Stamford, CT representatives who plan to show the world nothing is impossible, they’ve just released their highly anticipated Mixtape, “Status Unknown.”
The lyrics, beats, and overall vibe of the album transcends rap as a whole. It’s an experience, that can connect to the core of every human, no matter what your race, religion, financial status, or walk of life. In midst of this, however, 2k Boyz stay true to who they are and their roots. Both artists haven’t even reached their peaks musically, at this point in their very young lives, and yet each bring different and amazing skill sets to the table, to combine and create this refreshing Mixtape.
Kai never wavers, always bringing the truest and purest street speak to your ears. Kay brings the creativity and smooth style to the Mixtape, together meshing in a symbiotic cacophony of musical interludes and styles. Then in an instant the 2k Boyz switch roles and you don’t know whose bringing what to the table, but you’re loving it all the same!

The 2k Boyz reach out and demand your attention with every word they speak, telling you exactly how it is and how they see the world, with a flow almost poetry-like in nature. With so much rubbish being produced over the last few years, particularly in commercial hip-hop, this Mixtape from a nineteen-year-old duo, is a breath of fresh air that aspires to remaining relevant, as it touches personal day-to-day issues, we live with continually.
The dynamic hip hop duo of Kay and Kai, produce catchy flows over tight beats, and have really outdone themselves with “Status Unknown.” From the first song until the last, the lyrics and hooks do not let up.
Some of my song favorites would have to include “Believe In You,” “Home Run” and “Stay Close,” as each of these tunes could be replayed for hours just listening to the lyrics. It is no different with any other song on the Mixtape though, as it really provides you with a sense of who the 2k Boyz are.
The rhymes and lyrics that they compose are invitingly catchy and clean. Not that they shy away from rougher subject matter, but their perspective is grounded and responsible, intentionally avoiding explicit hardcore cliches. It’s like eating a burger and fries or enjoying hot sex and sweet potatoes, all rolled in one. Simple, yet enormously satisfying!
The songs on “Status Unknown” have a magical quality that allows it to relate to everyone, in an individual and personal way. You just need go and listen to it.
