REDD: “Rising Star” is making waves on the indie circuit

REDD’s lyricism and technical ability is better than most you have ever heard during 2014!

At the age of 15, REDD (Jeremy Stewart) signed a production deal and began playing in the band Suburban Syndicate. Their album 82316, a Rap/Rock fusion, grabbed attention on the internet as well as leading to Suburban Syndicate playing the 2012 Rockstar Uproar Tour. However, the band suffered from issues with the musical genre change and member commitments. So early in 2013 they went on a hiatus.

REDD began working extensively on his solo music in 2013 recording in both Detroit and Nashville. He released his first mixtape in 2014 along with 6 videos for the release. REDD recently won the award for Ultimate Musician on beat100. Other accolades include being featured on Music Connects top 10 rappers to break out in 2014. REDD also toured in 2014 being featured at both Indie Xplosions A3C Fest and playing Indie Week in Toronto Canada.

Currently REDD is headed back into the studio with high caliber producers to gear up for a late winter 2015 album release. In the meantime his mixtape “Rising Star” is making waves on the indie circuit. For me REDD can be seen as one helluva hardcore lyricist. He can battle aggressively, inject humor into a song, tell stories, and make you think all at the same time with ease and gusto. And REDD displays all that and then some on this mixtape.

Straight off the blocks, songs like “Rising Star”, “Gotta Get Away”, “Walk Away”, “Blow Your Mind”, and “Know It’s Real ft. AyHay” are incredibly intoxicating with their beats that will immediately get your head nodding. REDD proceeds to rip through “7 Seas” before setting it off with the piano-driven “Just For Me”.

REDD spits rapid-fire borderline insane lyrics on “Decisions”, leading up to my personal favorite tracks on the mixtape, “We Just Came To Ride” and “Questions ft. Kenny Quick -over a sterling and soulful banging beats, REDD once again proves he can deliver tongue twisting rhymes on just about anything.

redd-400bI could go on endlessly dropping track names, but you really need to hear this stuff for yourself. This mixtape is unbeatable lyrically. Couple that with the outstanding production and REDD’s absolute rapping skills, and you have an all-round winner.

“Rising Star” is one of my very favorite hip-hop mixtapes of all 2014; banging from beginning to end, REDD hits us like a brick with a collection of ear-catching flows. He has the outstandingly rare ability to successfully manipulate words, metaphors and rhymes, and translate it into easy listening for audiences. You only have to listen to this mixtape to sample the evidence.

Plain and simple, with perfect beats for him to run through, REDD’s lyricism and technical ability is better than most you have ever heard during 2014!
