Persian American pianist and composer Faranak Shahroozi is a unique personality in Persian culture. A pianist raised on Beethoven and Bach, she also grew up during the turmoil of Iran in the 1970’s and took her own path, avoiding the usual engineering career so many Iranians excel at. After emigrating to America, Faranak became a popular performer, with spell binding chops as a pianist. She became very popular in trendy Napa Valley California, performing for Steve Jobs, Robert Mondavi and other luminaries.
From what we have learned about her via her website, and some scant press, she has remained a hidden jewel until last week, when she released Illusion, a dark, haunting melody filled with a sense of urgency. The video cleverly points out how everything we see, do,and even feel could be just an illusion. Faranak was once married to noted composer Thomas Schoenberger.
