Lunaris is a very versatile electronic music artist who enjoys trying new and different styles of music while conveying some sort of story or mood. We recently listened to the “Journal Entry #1: “I Fear what My Dreams May Hold” and then discovered that every song by Lunaris has a particular story or idea linked to it. The story here takes its cue from the following words: “I cannot sleep, for I fear what my dreams may hold. They are a reality, consistent of every thought I want to forget and intentionally neglect. My imagination and consciousness have become my enemy.”
The ocean of beats and sounds washes across the shores of your mind, at once hypnotizing you with gentle undulating crests of sound, then mesmerizing you with giant waves of sonic attack, clearing away the craggy realities that occupy your subconscious, which soon seem many miles behind you. Too good to be true?
Not in this case. I’ve been through at least a hundred so-called electronic music producers within th last month and discovered, as you by now have, that most of them are bland, same-sounding pap, boring, merely sonic-filler creators. With today’s electronic gear it’s all too easy to make impressive sounds, but it’s very hard to induce emotion, which is what true music is about.
As in all musical genres, only about ten percent of artists are really gifted, let alone brilliant. Lunaris very much is, at least on some of the songs in his catalog. You’ll get that spacious feeling, the warmth of the strong beats, and the actual musical artistry of altering dark and light, soft and loud, joy and anger. Subtle variations ease you imperceptibly, from one track to another without ever losing interest.
Lunaris has music for almost any occasion, as he moves from electro to trip-hop, or from ambient to dubstep and a whole host of over electronic subgenres. “Journal Entry #1: “I Fear what My Dreams May Hold”, which Lunaris aptly classifies as ‘rawstyle’, is probably all of those styles rolled into one!
If you have any desire whatsoever for that elusive bird called ‘intelligent soundscapes’, Lunaris’ tracks are absolutely essential for your playlist. Track for track, his catalog will satisfy, whether you’re looking for something to chill you or to move you.
Lunaris brings to the harsh light of electronica, a honey-hot glow, which is brilliant in a warm, enveloping and sometimes stripped-down way: and so he continues, delivering delicate but poignant track after track, each one with a consistent but inventive soundscape, tempo, tune, rhythm… and story!
