Her music has been endorsed by top artists and music producers.
Carrie Anne Yu was born and educated in Hong Kong. She is a Jazz singer-songwriter and pianist, as well as being an author. Starting out at only eight years old, Carrie studied piano with the famous Beijing pianist Sieh Ta Chun.
She was also a winner of many awards in local radio and district singing contests. Carrie had pop and classical, vocal training during her teenage years, but later turned her interests towards Jazz, going on to study songwriting at Berklee and learning Jazz voice with Professor Jan Shapiro of the Voice Department at Berklee and former Chair of the same Department.
Due to her brilliant results she received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music. Carrie Anne, who has done some music arrangement for the movies, has also been ranked as No.1 Top Jazz Artist in the Reverbnation National Hong Kong Jazz Chart and National Jazz Chart. Her music has been endorsed by top artists and music producers like Grigory Parovichnikov (Moscow, Russia), Javier Martinez (Yoyo Music USA), Tastemaker Erik Hawkins (Berklee instructor/author of music books), Guillermo Delgado Aparicio (SoHo Records owner) and many more.
With prominent influences from artists like Bob Dylan, The Mamas & the Papas, The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Evans, Diana Krall, U2 and her classical upbringing, Carrie sparks her music through an eclectic background.
So smooth, so mellow, Carrie Anne Yu’s incredibly romantic interpretations will warm your heart, put you in a sentimental mood, and make you think of the one you love. This is especially true of “Someone To Watch Over Me”. But the lady cans also swing, as she does on “Back To Manhattan”, or in true big band style on “Chicago Pie”. In a word she is beautiful, talented and has a way with a song.
If there is something to be learned from Carrie Anne Yu, then it’s her softness and elegance in voice and musicianship which can connect deeply with the listener, particularly when the songs are of first rate caliber, and when they are delivered with the care and thoughtfulness Carrie Anne puts into them.
Carrie Anne Yu is not an artist who follows the trends. Her music is not ‘made’ for mainstream, like many other young artists these days who are out for the quick sell. Rather, Carrie Anne is a throw-back to a gentler time in music history when excellence mattered, and she would have shined back then, just as she shines now. With her dedication to musical artistry she will gain an audience that can discern her intelligence and her artistry, and that will appreciate her freedom of spirit in avoiding the mania that sets the ‘lack of intelligent’ direction for most in the music industry today.
There is a synergistic sound between her singing and playing of the piano. Carrie Anne imparts her feelings into the way she thinks they should sound. And this is true with all her songs and interpretations. It just so happens she not only sings the part but also plays the part and leaves the rest to your imagination.
Currently Carrie Anne Yu is working on new music which is being recorded and produced in France, including her latest single, “See You After The Rain”, which is in the final stages of post-production.
