At the beginning of 2012, a couple of friends decided to start a band with the vision to let every so called “different” kid out there know, that it’s okay to be as weird as they want to be. The result was Never Trust a Pumpkin. With inspirations from My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold this Swedish Post-Hardcore band started to write music immediately. They have just released a single called “I’m wearing white at your funeral” and have also stated that they are currently writing an EP.
The band describes themselves as “a Post-Hardcore band with a quite unusual sound. We mix Pop-Punk music with Screamo and Hardcore elements but with a twist you probably haven’t heard before…”
With “I’m wearing white at your funeral”, an urgent, insane, and awesome piece of music, this band aims in becoming essential to the indie musical landscape. The main thing about Never Trust a Pumpkin is that they have passion. Linus Koyuki Gustafsson screams, seethes, and basically slops emotion all over the single with unbridled abandon. The guitars of Felix Hagstedt and Joel Edvardsson churn and drive, while the basslines courtesy of Joakim Johansson incites rage. The lyrics are gut wrenching, while the concept is dark and beautiful.

As the band clearly states that they draw their influences from groups like Green Day and My Chemical Romance among others. On first listen you may be fooled into thinking that they are just some Green Day wannabe’s, but they are totally different in a good way. They have incredibly enchanting lyrics and their hard rock riffs will just blow you away.
One of the coolest things about Never Trust a Pumpkin though, is that – even through their bombastic rock riffs – they never lose track of a good melody. On “I’m wearing white at your funeral”, they seamlessly blend their many influences into a tight pop-punk song. Yet at the same time indicating, that their ideas are bigger than just emo, screamo, punk, or whatever you want to call it. So we’ll have to patiently wait for the promised Ep, to discover just how much more this band can deliver. In the meantime grab a listen to the single.
