‘Direction’, to be released on the 29th May 2015 and already available for pre-order on iTunes.
Three years since his debut album release and with a host of multiple award winning singles, including ‘Save me’, ‘Better Day’ and ‘Different Worlds’ under his belt during this time, UK pop artist returns to the fore with his latest album, ‘Direction’, to be released on the 29th May 2015 and already available for pre-order on iTunes.
As expected, this album confirms Junior Turner as the world’s most fabulous independent pop-music pleaser. He has come a long way since winning a competition out of 110,000 applicants to release a single for “BBC Children in Need” in Oct 2010, when he shot to national fame recording and releasing a cover version of the world famous “The Impossible Dream”- or since recording with Robbie Williams’ guitarist, Neil Taylor, on the track ‘Hurt’.
Five years have passed and who would have ever thought that Junior Turner would be ruling the indie pop charts, receiving multiple nominations and winning music awards singlehandedly, with no extravagant financial budgets or mega-hype agencies to back his talent?
‘Direction’ is a remarkable elevation for this entertainer as it contains almost all, if not all, of his hit-making and award-winning songs recorded during the past 3 years. I personally consider this a ‘Best Of’ album for Junior Turner! A little bit of rock n’ roll, some soul, a touch of rnb, a dash of disco together with his ever present, catchy pop-stylings and you have yourself a signature Junior Turner album, which in 2015 finds a much more musically focused artist.
The saga begins with ‘Natural and Nice’, an up-tempo, funky brass-driven anthem, short and easy to digest. Then comes ‘Hurricane’, which is by far one of Turner’s finest earlier songs. A sweeping chorus and the male-female counter vocals do everything to capture the listener; the ‘big’ sound proving to be a dramatic boost for Turner in the direction of artistic excellence.
‘Save Me’ will move you like no other. This is one of the most powerful, uplifting and intimate Junior Turner songs ever recorded. And it’s no wonder that it was chosen as an award-winning song in the USA. The second award-winner, ‘Different Worlds’, is mid-tempo pop extraordinary, at its best. The almost Motown, soul-inspired ‘Tonight’s the Night’ features some more new genre ground that Junior Turner covers on ‘Direction’.
‘Forever I’m Yours’ is a hand-clapping, jiving affair. Expect this to be a live favorite at those be-bopping venues. It’s songs like ‘Better Day’ that give juice to Turner’s albums. Well ‘Better Day’ is more than just the juice; it is the fruit itself; a beautiful tune, and one of the highlights of the entire album. Another award-winner!
‘Love Feels’ follows suit, a great song, where the quality of the music equals that of the lyrics; a sweet pop tune where Turner once again shows why he is a much more talented artist than most people would like to think on first listening.
In ‘Guardian Angel’ – Turner’s ode to a mother – what you get is an impressing profound song delivered by a voice that knows no bounds. In a time where music with substance should reign supreme, this song’s got “potential future hit single” written all over it. The album closes with the DJ Davy disco remix of ‘Better Day’, just in case dancing is your thing!
‘Direction’ is a staggering effort put together by Junior Turner. No doubt about it, he is becoming an independent, award-winning and hit making machine. At the same time Turner is growing into a thoroughly dynamic entertainer.
‘Direction’ is a step up from his previous album ‘Under Scrutiny’ which in itself was brilliant, though it’s not necessarily a reinvention or change of ‘direction’ because Turner needs no reinventing or changing of ‘direction’. His ‘Direction’ is straight and simple; keep making great music!
