Against Time sound the wake-up call to anyone who thinks that rock is a dying idiom!

Against Time offers up melodic, heavy rock that stands at the open door of metal. With members who hail from coast to coast you would be hard pressed to find a better representation of the True North. British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick are all represented with members who proudly consider themselves French, English, or Acadian but all Canadians. It’s only appropriate that this band would call the Ottawa/Gatineau region, the Nation’s capital, home. Walk into this jam room and you’ll find conversations flowing in English and French simultaneously. Against Time is: Mike Stacy – Vocals, Yannick Cyr – Lead guitar, Alain Leclair – Guitar, Bern Doiron – Bass, and Elder Silva – Drums.

Against-Time-350Against Time have compiled a blistering effort with their self-titled EP , a recording that not only meets the rock standards, but surpasses them and delivers a solid EP than truly proves the weight of this band. Starting things off with the in-your-face track `Follow’, Against Time doesn’t waste any time getting to the brute force that will no doubt pave the way for success in a pretty stagnant genre.

The second track, `Bothers’, has a very different vocal feel to it, and it took me a while to get into it but the almost laidback voice over the pounding riffs to the verses is actually really cool. `Come Undone’, follows in the same vein and delivers another brilliant rock track. It’s probably single material, considering it’s catchy, it’s strong and it’s relatable…a true anthem for the youth of today. Another blistering track is ‘Breathless’ which makes me just want to scream along with the bellowing Mike Stacy every time I hear this song. Here the bass and drum engine room, respectively driven by Bern Doiron and Elder Silva truly excels, while the blistering guitars courtesy of Yannick Cyr and Alain Leclair bring on the crunch.

But heavy anthems and blistering guitar work is not all this band has to offer. Thriving on rock in the late 80’s and early 90’s I followed new rock groups closely. However, over the past few years all the new artists sound the same so I stopped listening to anything new and only shuffled through my old classic rock records. Against Time has helped change that. They are one of the few bands whose music has an edge that is worth listening to. Another nice thing about this album is that the songs embrace a sense of melodic texture without losing any aggressive or hard rocking elements. Meaning that while Against Time do integrate some fleeting melodic moments within the scope of these 4 tracks, they simultaneously inject an overload of serious punch into their sonic assault.

Against Time is a step forward for this Canadian band, and a wake-up call to anyone who thinks that rock is a dying idiom. On the contrary Against Time makes sure it is reinvigorated, alive, and breathing better than ever before!
