On his album “NEGATiVE ZERO”, 21 year old Puerto Rican Hip Hop artist ZERO PREZiDENTZ wields his uniqueness with confidence, spitting meditations on life, culture, love and with fluency and ease. The production, mainly handled by AXEL is full of exciting twists and turns. But what makes this album so amazing is its diversity. ZERO PREZiDENTZ has taken things he has learned from other mixtapes, EP’s and albums and found the perfect balance in his own music, between old school, modern rap, street cred and alternative edge. It has his intense rapping, his vulnerable singing and is most importantly extremely catchy and intelligent.
Words don’t seem to be able to grasp the sui generis talent of ZERO PREZiDENTZ. “NEGATiVE ZERO” is nothing short of game changing. This isn’t your run of the mill rap album. A few good songs, with 6-7 filler songs in between, this album is full of lyrical genius, progressive, dynamic music, and deep thought provoking subject matter.
If you are a fan of rap in the slightest, this is a must purchase. “Lost N Found (Prod. AXEL)”, “We Are God ft. Megan Kay (Prod. AXEL)”, “No Time For Love (Prod. Youngag)”, “The Theory of Time” and “INSiDE – Poem” are flagship tracks, but please do not overlook any track.
This album is smart, soulful and stirring. ZERO PREZiDENTZ presents thoughtful and raw commentary on his topics. Okay, obviously I love the whole album, which isn’t always the case. He does a great job attaching a theme to the album without making it completely a theme piece.
And there’s so much heart in his lyrics; he’s possibly one of the most honest artists I’ve heard in quite a while. I like what ZERO PREZiDENTZ brings to the table, he is creative with his lyrics sometimes leaving you there to think about what he just said, which is what I look for in music.
I like music to not only sound good but also tell a story or make you think. Even better, ZERO PREZiDENTZ delivers some of the most intelligent punchlines ever uttered by a rap artist while touching on some of the more difficult and emotional parts in these tracks.
It’s been a long time since I’ve paid such close attention to the lyrics in a song since most mainstream songs are just nonsensical phrases thrown together to a catchy tune. That doesn’t happen here, because even the tunes aren’t the usual stuff. ZERO PREZiDENTZ has accomplished the feat of truly engaging the listener by delivering rap that beautifully intertwines melodically and lyrically.
His strength as a writer is truly demonstrated throughout each song. But a good song does not come without melody, something ZERO PREZiDENTZ and his producers have masterfully sown to make this album one of my favorite rap listens this year. Furthermore the eclectic sounds and rhymes proves that he is willing to take some chances to make sure that ZERO PREZiDENTZ can grow as an artist.
