Violane has a strong thread of reality and wholeness that I haven’t heard in a long time.
Violane is a rock band from U.S.A. and Italy. Formed in 2013, the group consists of John Clinebell (vocals and guitar), Alessio Miraglia (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Andrea Ottaviani (bass guitar) and Riccardo Chiodo (drums and percussion), Live Guest Stefano Bussadori (guitar). Violane’s early sound was rooted in post-grunge but eventually grew to incorporate influences from many genres of popular music. Throughout the group’s musical pursuits, they have a sound built on melodic instrumentals, highlighted by John’s expressive vocals. Their lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on personal themes and sociopolitical concerns.
The Violane album is amazing. They are a tier above the rest of the indie rock music industry. Violane has a strong thread of reality and wholeness that I haven’t heard in a long time. They tell stories, they write philosophy and they address issues head-on. This album captures the true emotion, art and greatness of the band.
Each song is great, all musically and artistically done to the limit. The six songs that truly captures my imagination from the album are, “Guess What”, “Cold Side Of The Moon”, “Flyin’ High As Dream”, “Undead Romantics”, “Crystal Ball” and “Sayonara, Baby”.
Violane seems to have a way with words that reach inside of all of us. If you take the time to listen to the lyrics of all of the songs in this album, they all have some type of meaning that we all can relate to. You can tell that this band has experienced a lot in there lives, which comes out in this album.
Violane have a passion and a purity of sound that is simultaneously refreshing and liberating, ultimately distinguishing their music from many of its contemporaries. Granted, their overall sound borrows some of its musical inspiration from the revolutionary grunge bands of the early ’90s, but it is all a part of the process that is enlightening their music today.
The album has a mix of slow, meaningful songs to hard hitting, powerfully melodic songs. But the best thing about this album is if you like one song you will like all of them. John Clinebell also has one of the most expressive voices in mainstream rock today, which is another major plus.
This band is one of my favorite rock artists of the year! Between the intellect of the lyrical content, and the dynamic music arrangements, I hear some excellent songwriting and solid all-round performances without the usual rock-star ‘heroics’ – overlong drum or guitar solos or any of the other ‘poser’ stuff usually associated with rock music. If these guys can stay together long enough Violane will definitely impact Rock music and possibly be a part of its future history.
