Toya Nash is a classically trained mezzo-Soprano, and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School in Manhattan. She is also an accomplished actress of both stage and screen and can be seen in the feature, Trapped.
Toya also founded The LANA Company, her own line of natural bath and body products, as well as being the founder of Coach Your Craft, a coaching company for voice and acting. Toya is a strong believer in giving back, and often sponsors children and teens by offering free voice and acting workshops through Coach Your Craft.
Toya Nash has just released her debut EP, Him…, and she is currently performing at various venues throughout the US.
Toya has one heck of a voice and the kind of secure yet relaxed performance style which carries the Ep through with convincing, energetic and charismatic flair. She puts so much feeling and meaning into every track, you’ll feel the words hit your chest. The passion she delivers, makes you to feel how good this music is.
The Ep has a sound all of its own. It achieves a superb balance between professional production and understated clean minimalistic sound. It’s clear, crisp and uncluttered, and the compositions are strong enough to stand proud against some of the classics of this genre. The acoustic guitar and bass riffs will probably cause a few jaws to drop too, as they are just sublime in places. Toya’s sound is rugged R&B, dipped into heartrending soul, and all spiced up with a sprinkling of pop and rock.

My absolute favorites, “No Pressure” and “Let Me In,” are edgy, raw and impassioned. This is exactly where I think Toya should be. Her handling of slowly calibrated laments, is really overwhelming. This is the sound of a gifted artist who has created an extremely accomplished piece of art.
I could use dozens of superlatives but nothing could properly express my joy over the songs on this Ep, which are both organic sounding yet very sophisticated. So what’s so good about it? Well… everything really, but most of all Toya’s voice, which goes from soft and pure, to intense and confident. Sometimes in the same song.
She sounds so authentic, so real, and so unique, while the music creates stunning backdrops for her vocal deliveries, whether languid like “No Pressure,” or upbeat and groovy on “Nobody Like You.” The songs arouse all kinds of emotions from the beginning to the end, it takes you on a musical journey that will desperately leave you wanting more.
“Him…” sums up Toya Nash’s considerable talents. She has a fantastic voice, full of emotion, and is able to relate complex feelings in a simple form. This is the mark of a true vocal artist.
Hopefully next time around, Toya will deliver us a full length album, to bathe our ears in, as the four-tracks on this Ep is just a wicked teaser!
