Known for an eclectic style, Third Realm explores the elements of several underground genres resulting in a diverse mix of sound. Far from just another face in the crowd of recycled Dark Electo acts, front man Nathan Reiner demonstrates strong production skills, clever songwriting, and meaningful lyrics. Third Realm has received international recognition through club/radio play, film placement and has shared the stage with some notable bands such as Psyclon Nine, Dawn of Ashes, Voltaire, VOWS (Formerly WAZU), Ghostfeeder, Espermachine and MyParasites.
Daydreams and Nightmares the latest album by Third Realm was released 18th November this year. Third Realm has built its reputation on a mix of EBM, hard beats and deep, melodic and sometimes monotone yet dramatic vocals .The band will be stomping its way into the hearts of Goth fans and rivet-heads alike with this releases.
The beats are relentless but not militaristic. There’s more melancholy than machine here because Nathan Reiner is willing to take his time to establish a mood rather than spewing out the thundering vocals and repetitive rhythms that often turn other bands within this genre into trance gone dark.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that Daydreams and Nightmares, is inching closer and closer toward dark electronic stalwarts like The Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode than ever before. Reiner continues to draw out more organic sounds from his electronic bag of tricks which lend a deep, thoughtful, if not morose, quality to this album. With many slower songs like “Resurrection”, “Never Say Goodbye”, “I Can’t Erase This Tragedy” and “Autumn’s Revenge”, this album isn’t just meant to get boots stomping around the dance floor. Third Realm can emote when they darn well feel like it and the music doesn’t suffer one bit.
Place Your Banner Here!
Not to say its all hypnotic slow-jams: “Eternal Lover” is a smash-it-up riot act. “Reignite The Flame” has synths sailing over a relentless beat. While the driving rhythm and sinister vocal of “Curse My Name” is a bizarrely danceable draw as well.
Third Realm continue to further their sound with Daydreams and Nightmares which includes dance-floor style tracks they are known for, but also slower, extremely poignant songs that could lead you to melancholy. The entire album is a musical piece in itself, something which is difficult to accomplish.
The power and the strength that Third Realm exudes is absolutely magnetizing. This album makes you feel emotional, and that’s amazing. Grab it if you are into mellow but somewhat brooding music with a very sharp edge. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys depth, creativity, poignancy, and sweeping emotion.
Daydreams and Nightmares is flawless and an album that one cannot get tired of. Grab hold of it and just be happy you own a piece of electro artistry!
