Formed in the valley of Matlock, in Derbyshire, England. The Something? are a well-established indie rock band. Defined by the passion and vigor of real-life experiences, gritty vocal narratives combine with crunching driven guitar, pounding rhythms and electronic overtones to put together a sound of retro-inspired indie anthems for a generation of today. The band is comprised of Andy Page (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitars, Keys), Leigh Page (Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals), Jamie Uphill (Bass, Backing vocals) and Jonathan Smith (Drums).
“Just Might Shine” and “This Borrowed Blue” represent the latest single releases by this energizing band. In an era where Pop-Culture is dominated by hip-hop and teenybopper pop music, The Something? restores faith in rock and roll. The band combines the best elements of raw rock, the slow sing-along anthem vibe, and a trippy, psychedelic sound.
In its simplest form, The Something? is a great rock and roll band that will make a great addition to any music fan’s collection. Much like the Beatles were capable of in their heyday, the band applies their song writing skills and refrains without complicating them with awkward productions and meaningless filler.
Going beyond the latest single releases, while browsing their back catalog, I can say that I have never seen the use of such simple chords blended in so many different sounding songs. Every now and then a band will come out that has a sound unique and distinguished from everyone else. They normally last a long time, and continually pump out great music. The Something? has these same principals. You can put their music on, switch on your shuffle, and all the music is good. In fact every single damn song is enjoyable in one way or another.

“Just Might Shine” and “This Borrowed Blue” have definitely got a new, more mainstream pop ring to them, but the The Something? core sounds, are still there and definitely heard throughout. If these singles were released to whet our appetites for a new album release, then the band’s intention has been amply met.
The Something? is producing something creative and catchy, unlike anywhere they’ve treaded before. They are clearly attempting to elevate their sound to the next level of mainstream acceptance, which normally leads to recognition on much wider level. And the band certainly do not disappoint with their recent releases.
On the contrary, thank goodness for The Something?. In a pop music industry littered with talentless rappers, sexy divas, fake metal heads and bubblegum boy bands, the new releases from The Something? rises so far above the competition, it’s almost frightening. Unlike the majority of current artists, this band simply writes great songs with intense, unforgettable melodies and pounding rhythms to match. Highly recommended, especially if you like that Brit-Pop/Rock edge!
