Out on Better Daze Records!
If you need to get back to the class rock roots, the single “Who’s Right” by music duo, Roger Cole & Paul Barrere is necessary. Let’s face it. The new music does not sufficiently fill the void of the classic rock sound. So I had to go to retrieve the only refuge of musical sanity left- that’s new music with an authentic classic rock style. I suggest you do the same.
After many years of experience in the music industry, both Paul Barrere and Roger Cole, have no lack of understanding the amount of responsibility, both financial and time, required to get exposure for a new music project in today’s markets. Still wanting the ability to create, promote and share new material without being forced to adhere to mainstream music guidelines set forth by larger labels and distributors, they created Better Daze Records. And it is here that the two also set about collaborating artistically and releasing music.
During October, the two dropped the single “Bad Blood” from a 3-track collection called “Who’s Right”. Now they have decided to release the title track as a single too. Come on let’s face it I’d take Paul Barrere and Roger Cole over most of the trash I’m hearing on the radio these days and seeing on MTV and Youtube.
Similar to the previous single, “Who’s Right” foregoes the harder “take-no-prisoners” rock edge usually forged through power chords and gritty electric guitars to form an intense groove. Instead Paul Barrere and Roger Cole weave their rock n’ roll magic based on an acoustic-guitar driven rhythm and some tasty, soulful lead solos -and what a beautiful, heart-felt recording this turns out to be!
You can hear the wizened experience poured into their lyrics, you can feel the “I’ve-been-here-before” sentiment of the song. It’s clear that songwriting is no trifle matter to these dudes. There is just something different about Paul Barrere and Roger Cole, set within today’s musical context.
Paul and Roger are what were once called “true artists”. If you know their work (I’ve only come to discover them recently), you’ll know that there is no discernable compromise in their musical art. Their lyrics, arrangements and vocal harmonies all make sense according to their own true calling, with almost totally disregard towards trends and fads.
Their music is difficult to articulate or box within current trends, but the timeless purity, and the gritty intimacy of it, is significantly impressive. There are many great artists out there, no doubt. But at the end of the day, my favorites are usually the ones that are able to ‘speak to me’. Paul Barrere and Roger Cole with “Who’s Right”, do just that!
