Rich Quick & Solid B: “The Long Kiss” shows off inventive rhyming and audacity!

The Long Kiss is the recent release from the Louisville, KY based, Rich Quick & Solid B. From Louisville Kentucky’s poor to middle class area these emcees have dedicated themselves to turning back to the roots of the time which they refer to as the message – when hip hop was pure and had actual concept.

While it hard to call anything today a classic, let alone an underground classic, this mixtape by Rich Quick & Solid B is definitely an ‘underground classic’ and a true banger. This joint is truly a production “tour de force”. Their style is right at home for a couple of reasons. First of all, their work is tight, and I think it’s accurate to say that most of us will be focusing on the lyrical depth that Rich Quick & Solid B deliver, maybe wanting to hear how abstract they can be with the falsetto-singing interludes and such. We may even lose sight of the production values and allow it to go under-appreciated while concentrating on the flow and rhymes.

richieb-coverIf you have that fear, hold up. There’s no need to worry because the production – organic and minimal, stands out supreme and takes front-stage alongside the lyrics here. The mix is fire right from when “Smoke” kicks in. Every track gets a head-nod and if you skip to a favorite you will no doubt come back to the track you skipped. While everyone has their own standout tracks, I’m not going tell you which songs are the hottest (you judge for yourself), I’ll just tell which ones I’m feeling right now, like “Nameless”, “Dark World”,  “Flash”, “Babylon”, “Love Game” and “The Edge”.

Rich Quick & Solid B are very relaxed and smooth, coming with that mellow vibe that any hip-hop head can enjoy. Their virtuosity brings out the nuances of each track with game-tight lyrical deliveries. You can hear the old-school essence of hip-hop on every song. And although I completely comprehend the sounds of today’s futuristic break-beats, it’s great to know that there’s still somebody that brings back the whole laid back ‘Tribe-type’ feel.

Rich Quick & Solid B is a duo with a great mix of content, appealing to different generations of music fans. The Long Kiss shows off inventive rhyming and audacity, as these emcees rip it up. Their rhyming is catchy, compulsive, dynamic, original and clever. Add to this, the depth and groove of the production as well as the high-pitched vocal harmonies and you have a phenomenally ‘different’ kind of hiphop album. Check it out!
