Raymond “GRITTY” Greene’s album “No Vacancy” is a pretty dense affair. The 10-tracks have been made by a variety of producers, including PRINCE 8, RAZAH JOE, MILES BONNY, YELGA MUSIC and GRITTY himself. Some tracks also have features by the likes of MIRAN DAVID, FLAUSE, PETEY NATURE and PRINCE 8.
This album is the second in a series of excellent works. Gritty’s ability as an artist is clear to hear, but frankly it is his lyricism that wins the day setting him apart from the crowd. In this album you find a win-win combo, of the rhythm and rhyme mostly missing these days in the rap scene.
There’s no question the musical quality is top notch and this album pulls no punches as song after song challenges common assumptions and modern issues prevalent in American culture, be it money, the idea of truth, or real faith and spirituality. Gritty is very clearly putting scripture into Rap, for everyone to be able to listen to this type of music without being bombarded with negative destructive messages that are so common in music today.
Gritty mixes up slow with upbeat, but he is always real about his message. He’s not a preacher, but he sure could be! He knows that his gift is to be used to spread the Gospel, and tell it he does. From standout tracks like WORK EAT PRAY SLEEP, PLEASE LORD, DADDY’S PROMISE, MOTIVES AND ACTIONS, MAN STEPS and WHAT YOU LIVING FOR, Gritty spits fire over series of production styles from soulful laments to rocking rhythms.
All-round, “No Vacancy” is a fantastic album, as Gritty creates the most amazing lyrics written in a style anyone can relate to, throwing into a mix of music that is catchy and inspiring. The great part is it’s never superficial, but rather, deep, meaningful, and well thought out.
