Chris has been writing and performing since he was a child. Growing up in Winnipeg, Canada allowed him time to write and perfect his craft due to the blistering cold Winnipeg winters.
In 2002 Chris packed up his suitcase and guitar and moved to Vancouver, B.C. to pursue music and a reoccurring acting bug which set him spiralling off into a world of art, acting and his love for making music. Chris dedicated his time to music and put the acting bug on hold while he focused strongly on his true passion, making music. While in Vancouver he performed at several popular musical venues in and around Vancouver and recorded an unreleased solo acoustic record at a local studio.
His drive and enthusiasm for his craft is apparent with his latest endeavor New Stellar Star. New Stellar Star’s regular line up of sessional musicians live and on record comprise Drummer Michael Shawcross and Guitarist Grant Miller.
New Stellar Star has worked with Nickelback producer Dale Penner and Bob Brooks the former owner of Little Mountain Sound. The single “Long Gone” was mixed by Mike Brylinski (Goo Goo Dolls) and mastered by Stephen Marcussen (Bon Jovi).
New Stellar Star have not as such, released a new official album, but a collection of singles loosely connected to each other.
The penultimate single according to release dates, is “Long Gone”. The song is very Brit-rock sounding. Walls of guitar riffs and rhythms, ride above a loud and punchy string section. While Chris’s lead vocals shunt the multi-layered harmonies all across the melody and chorus line. This uptempo number stands somewhere in the middle, between the Goo Good Dolls and British band Oasis.
“Out Loud” the latest single, sticks much to the same elaborate “Long Gone” production, with a dishy smothering of keyboard synths and a little less guitar upfront in the mix. The song however is heavily dependant on Chris Bullock’s chants and typical anthemic choruses like:
“Wake up wake up now this is your last dance
Go on and take it like it’s your last chance
Rock till you feel it Spit like you mean it
This is your one shot go out and take it
live your life out loud…”
Which clearly give you the picture that New Stellar Star want to rock you…seriously! The chorus hookline is catchy and you’ll be singing along with absolute ease after the second verse.
The mid-tempo “Lay Down On Me” features the famed bittersweet sound of the Rolling Stones with touches of the Richard Ashcroft (The Verve) vocal-phrasing style. Once again Chris shows he can write catchy choruses.
“All The While” is acoustic-guitar driven, but by no means lighter than the rest of NSS’s cutting edge melodies. This is because Chris never let’s up on the vocals. Gritty, crunchy and loud, he punches his lyrics right into your face. Just so you get the message loud and clear.
On “Fade Out” NSS are very reminiscent of early Robbie Williams. The melody and the chorus line is more powerpop orientated, although still mantaining it’s dirty rock roots.

With this singles collection New Stellar Star forcefully introduce themselves into the indie music world. They have a gutsy grinding rock sound, with great melodies and catchy choruses. Chris Bullocks’s clever songwriting and gritty bellowing voice do the rest.
Definetely a band to keep a watchful eye on, New Stellar Star’s singles are currently available on iTunes.
