Melissa Otero was born in Elizabeth, NJ and relocated to Puerto Rico with her parents at the age of five. At nine she viewed Gloria Estefan’s Homecoming Concert and knew she had found her calling. From that moment on Melissa has dedicated herself to mastering her unique talents.
She studied extensively under vocal coaches Don Lawrence (Lady Gaga/Whitney Houston), Sandra Quintana and Mike St. Pierre as well as acting, piano and dance for the past ten years. In 2006 she released her first single “My First Everything” which reached #1 for two consecutive weeks. In 2008 Melissa released her first album “My Spirit”, which included the hit single “10:40pm” in Europe, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Colombia. With the success of her first album “My Spirit”, she was approached by Karate America of Little Chute, WI to tour as part of a benefit concert series for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
In 2010 while in Miami, Melissa met famed record producer Clay Ostwald (Gloria Estefan), together Clay and Melissa produced a new version of her single “Phantom of My Heart” in both an English and Spanish. “Phantom” went on to be a huge success in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Florida. Her hit single “Angels & Demons” was chosen by US Airways as part of their radio rotation. Melissa is currently writing music and working with some famed songwriters in preparation for recording her new studio album due out in 2012.
Independent Latina singer Melissa Otero is a girl with a very big voice indeed, and the release of her single “Angels and Demons”, which was produced by Stefan Moessle and Melissa herself, ceraintly certifies this beyond any reasonable doubt. The song released through Universal Music was also penned by Melissa Otero, who wrote both the music and lyrics to this powerhouse pop ballad. Subsequently also conferming that over and above her already above-mentioned very big voice, she is a very big all-round musical talent to boot.
“Angels and Demons” instantly takes you on an all too familiar oddysey through the joys and agonies of love and betrayal, as Melissa leads you to the dynamic and forceful chorus line vocal:
‘Cos I’m no angel
I have two faces
I put one on for you
Put one on for me
These angels and demons won’t set me free’
The song is very reminiscent of some of the best vocal performance ballads by the likes of Celine Dion and Leona Lewis. The purity of Ms.Otero’s voice and the emotion in her delivery is perfect. In places during the soaring chorus arrangements of “Angels and Demons” her impassioned singing becomes almost spine chilling.
Quite seriously, if you scrutinize any current day Billboard Chart, you wouldn’t find many better a singer than Melissa Otero.
Industry insiders should be keeping a watchful eye on Melissa’s career moves, as her talent will no doubt allow her to make mighty musical waves in the near future.
