Born in 1993, 20-year-old Jon C. Chen has been playing violin for over ten years. John is a brilliant violinist who can evoke the full spectrum of emotions with his playing. Unlike more traditional classical violin music in an orchestra setting, though, John his arranged violin melodies to be played above a wide range of modern pop tracks, with results that make you want to listen to them over and over.
On his recent album, “The Beginning,” Jon covers a host of well-known, monster radio hits like: “When I Was Your Man” and “Locked Out of Heaven”- Bruno Mars, “Someone Like You” – Adele, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” – Taylor Swift, “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake” – Katy Perry, “Payphone” – Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa, “No Lie” – 2 Chainz ft. Drake, as well as “Imagine” – John Lennon. All together there are fifteen uplifting pop tracks to delight and entertain you.
Even If you’re not too keen on violins in mainstream music, you’ll probably still like Jon’s pop violin; he has skillfully kept his instrument’s voice dominant, and used the mix of pop’s most popular tunes as a canvas on which to color. For all the pop violin covers I’ve listened to, John’s versions are in a class by themselves. He’s not only a very capable musician; his arrangements and playing is tasteful, accurate, and fun to hear.
