Georgia Harrigan is a young in-game and electro dance music producer, who is originally a self-taught pianist. She is not deliberately trying to follow any popular music trends and clearly knows what genre of music fits her best. Of her recently released albums we grabbed a listen to “Dance Compilation”. If you’re looking for something very fun, electronic and pop with a heavy 1980s vibe, Georgia Harrigan is for you. Her electro music is unlike anything on the radio today. The album sounds very retro while feeling very futuristic at the same time.
Though the vibe of the album sounds retro, it doesn’t seem dated at all. It’s an odd blend of what made 80′s music so much fun while somehow keeping its soul set on the future. The music is carefree and interesting without ever being frivolous.
As frequently happens within this music genre, the same waves of synth and electronic treatment that gives these albums its flair and attitude, often run the risk of getting somewhat repetitive after a few tracks. Georgia intelligently circumvents this problem, by clipping all but one of the 15 tracks before the two-minute mark!
In a way, it works perfectly, disallowing the tracks to blend, fade or retreat into one another, rather leaving each tune to stand out and shine, as they should. In my book, four tracks stand head and shoulders above the rest; the infernal beat of “Glitched Piano,” “Tape Stop Piano 2,” “Firefly” and “Doom Catcher”. On the whole if you like catchy electronic music that you can dance or even exercise to, and has a recognizable well-crafted hook, then you will easily enjoy Georgia’s work.
“Dance Compilation,” flows from start to finish. It’s very high energy, and you’ll find yourself bobbing to the beat during whatever it is that you’re doing. Georgia’s sound is very unique and polished, and if you’ve listened to most of her work, you’ll agree that you can’t really categorize it. Is it dance or a soundtrack to the latest Nintendo game craze? Honestly, it’s both and just depends on how loud you turn up the volume! More than communicate emotion her music pumps adrenalin.
Georgia Harrigan dishes out very catchy tunes, lots of thumping bass lines and great synth textures, with every one being different and interesting. The only disadvantage to this album is that it is rather deceptively short, 15 whopping songs in under 30 minutes! Well, now you understand the meaning of quality over quantity…
Luckily Georgia comes to the rescue with another 2 album releases on her website, to quench your thirst for creative electronic music!
