[twitter style=”vertical” float=”left”] [fbshare type=”button”] [google_plusone size=”standard” annotation=”none” language=”English (UK)”] Thrashing guitars, bashing drums and powerful offbeat and dissonant vocals. This the anarchic, psycadelic sound of alternative-rock band – DE///LION on their EP “Trash, Birds? Rats. Idea!”
DE///LION formed in 2009 between New York and Tel Aviv with Ariel De Lion, the brothers Yaron and Adi Vaknus plus Damn-T.
Their music is bold, brash and very bass driven. While their lyrics tend to tackle political and social issues head-on.
In fact Ariel De Lion comes across as a convinced activist, having taken part in various solidarity protests as well as pitching-up tent right in front of the Whitehouse.
And Ariel doesn’t stop there.
During 2011 he amplified his communicative channels by founding the Internet radio-station, TV LRS.fm. Which operates from 3 different locations and 2 countries.
Clearly DE///LION are a band with a vision and a dedicated social conscience. An aspect which constantly shines throughout their music.
“Trash, Birds? Rats. Idea!”, which has been released on the World Live Music & Distribution label, contains 4 songs.
The album opens with the title track. This Marilyn Manson meets The Doors anthem, displays high energy rhythms and big guitar hooks while Ariel forges his unique vocal style over the stabbing riffs.
“Circles” reveals the flip-side of the band. It is more bridled and embryonic, building apon it’s cymbal crashes and lead guitar riffs. Vocally, it is even more Doors influenced than the previous track, with Ariel hauntingly, sounding like the long departed Jim Morrison.
“Professional Arouser” breaks out with a very Spanish sounding intro. Clean Acoustic guitar and foot-tapping beat included. However, DE///LION slip out of their “wolves in sheepskin” sound very quickly. Frenetic guitars, rolling drums and Ariel’s bellowing voice puts everything into acid rock perspective in a flash.
The closing track entitled “Crack You” is probably the most conventionally structured song on the album. Even though it has rampageous sounding undertones, it’s a straight down the road rocker, which could comfortably sit on many radio playlists.
On “Trash, Birds? Rats. Idea!”, DE///LION manifest an arousing blend of grunge and alternative rock styles. Besides The Doors, there are also strong undertones of Nirvana all through the album.
If you’re a rock enthusiast, who likes his sound hard, audacious, experimental and out of the mainstream rock schemes. This will definitely be an album to put on your priority listening checklist.
