Aubrey Whitfield: “I’m Without You” – vibrantly profound, urgent and emotive!

Let’s that this from the top down. In early 2016, Aubrey Whitfield, was accepted into the UK’s Music Producers Guild – meaning that she is a member of the coveted 4% of female producers in the Guild and 2% of all female producers worldwide. With credits boasting UK and international airplay on hundreds of radio stations and scores of positive media reviews on her dynamic, creative and cutting edge productions, she has just released her latest, self-written, performed and produced song – “I’m Without You”.

So how did all this start? Merseyside in the North of England, where Aubrey became obsessed by music from a very early age and ended up writing 500 songs by the time she was 17 – having also leant to play the guitar and piano, long before then. She has since gone on to releasing many successful records, as well as writing and producing at a top level for a variety of artists and projects.

Aubrey-Whitfield-CoverShe also had her own project studio. Moreover she founded her first record label, ‘E3 Records’, and then going on to start another, in the form of ‘2ube Records’. But right at the core of all this exciting creative endeavors, Aubrey is also a performing artist at heart, which brings us directly to her latest release – “I’m Without You”.

Aubrey’s track record speaks volumes about her production and writing achievements, but just how does the lady fare on this side of the boards, on what is her fourth single? All wrapped up in punchy melody and crunchy guitar grit, she blows it out of the park.

Long known not only for her production, but also for her songwriting ability, Aubrey seems maybe more focused here than ever, as a performer. She laments, she soars and she emotes, cutting to the core of the song’s theme – “You’ve got to let me go, someday, got to let me fly away. Without you, I can see it in your eyes. Such a dying state of mind…”

If you’re already a fan you’ll absolutely love this song, as it takes you on a melodic roller-coaster. If you’ve never heard of Aubrey Whitfield, this is where you’ll fall in love with her too. Her voice and overall sound impacts in the same way those great singer-songwriters from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s did.

I’m thinking Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Chrissie Hynde, but there are countless others I could add to that list. I just hear something vibrantly profound, urgent and emotive in her songwriting and vocal performances, which has all but become a lost art in today’s super technological productions.

If anything, “I’m Without You” captures the best of all musical worlds in a brief 4 minutes, at once melodic yet rocking, gorgeously warm yet edgy, other-worldly yet down to earth, and old-school singer-songwriter, yet modern-pop sounding.

Aubrey Whitfield is truly a consummate talent, with her roots firmly planted on one end of the musical stick and her aspirations ingrained on the other end – in between she does it all…and rather excellently!
