Singer/songwriter Andy Ruck is gearing up to propel his long awaited debut album “Pictures”; on sale from Amazon on March 29th. The album is inspired by a plethora of chapters of the singer’s life. Andy who hails from Northern Ireland has spent over five years dedicated to writing and producing the 14 tracks featured on the album. Andy said: “It’s been a long hard road, but I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve spent, recording and perfecting the album. All of the material is original, written by me and, much of it is inspired by different chapters of my life.” Andy tackles many of the struggles of human emotion that individuals succumb to daily.
Does “Pictures” mark the great return of the lost adult orientated pop record? It sure gets my vote. This album is a textbook of great melodies and powerful arrangements, and Andy Ruck adds a voice not currently found in your typical modern-day pop fare. At least not since Darren Hayes of Savage Garden set our ears alight with bucket loads of beautiful octaves.
The great things about this album; excellent songwriting , a wide variety of styles with tight musicianship, going from sweet ballads to mid and up-tempo pop-rock, plus a razor sharp production. Listening to Andy Ruck reminds me of great times during the Seventies, chilling out to power ballads by bands like Reo Speedwagon and Styx. A time when you could buy beer, listen to music played by real musicians that wasn’t sampled and pieced together on computers, and get laid without the fear of HIV. Andy’s music is both nostalgic and modern sounding at the same time.

Andy Ruck has a wonderful voice; it can be rich and bombastic; smooth and seductive; mellow and evocative. It amalgamates perfectly with the passionate and sometimes romantic lyrics which pervade this album. Full of powerful, superb songs all cleverly orchestrated. The biggest advantage is that they show off Andy’s amazing voice.
Ruck’s music is literate and caring, with memorable and infectious tunes. From the first delicate piano bars of “Sweet Princess Butterfly” to the last crunching bar of “Better Days” this album is excellent. The epic string arrangements and volatile guitar interludes which support Andy’s soaring vocals on “Savior” are awe-inspiring, as is the acoustic guitar and piano driven sound of “The End Of the World.” The storytelling is interesting, never dull, as he takes his adult contemporary pop through passionate songs like “Down,” “Blow,” “Angel” and “Broken Pictures” among others.
Much like Chris de Burgh in his heyday, Andy Ruck’s music bridges the gap between modern pop works, and the earlier, wonderful story telling styles of classic singer-songwriters. Today this is all but a lost art.
Luckily for us there are still artists like Andy Ruck around, to deliver passionate heart rendering musical compositions, packaged in a timeless sound which is simply stunning, emotional, and spiritual.
The album “Pictures” will be out this month, while the single “Down” is already available for download.
