The Akuna Art project began in 2006. At the beginning, it was only instrumental music, but that, as time went by has changed. Philippe Duvignac is both the creator and the producer of the project. The second half of 2013 was in part consecrated to the recording of Akuna Art’s third album. Expanding on their electronic sound, this album sets new boundaries for the band. Their sound has also acquired a fresh new take on pop music, with 80’s analogic sounds, and including sounds of world-music. “Poptronica Fantasy”, an emotional pop-electronic fantasy built around 14 tracks.
“Poptronica Fantasy” features no less than 4 female singers, Audrey H., Isabelle Lalande, Maïa Lic and Lea Milh. Rafik Taourh on percussion and Yaël B on vocals also take part in this latest adventure. Jacques Milh has co-arranged several songs and played keyboards and synths on this third album by Akuna Art.
“Poptronica Fantasy” is a rhythm-pumping album filled with radio and groove friendly songs. The snugly-synth and keyboard lines mixed with the sexy female vocals and strong bass beats make these tunes both hypnotically danceable and totally listenable.
Each song is absolutely amazing, the kind of mix between groovy beats, catchy melodies, and smooth vocals that you can only find in Europe, the birthplace of dance music. Furthermore Philippe Duvignac quickly emits a reputation for excellence, as a musical genius.
The arrangements Duvignac has produced here are breathtaking. This is a mix of electronica, dance, world, ambient and pop. He always creates a mood; sometimes slow and sensual, others mostly upbeat, danceable and immediately listenable.

Listening to the music will take you on a fantastic journey of the mind and soul.It is sophisticated, very chic, and sexy in texture. The tempo on this album is upbeat yet mellow, with a rare combination of soulful vocals interlaced with Akuna Art’s distinctive and relentless instrumentation. The songs ebb and flow between a frenzy of powerful beats with an array of melodic, sonic and vocal textures. The instrumentation covers almost every possible and imaginable combination of familiar and exotic musical instruments for a voyage to aural nirvana.
Every word, every note and every beat is in its right place, making this a perfect album in both concept and execution.“Poptronica Fantasy” perfectly captures the mood so many others strive to create in this crossover genre: lush, almost symphonic arrangements blended with other-worldly synthesizers, sensuous singing, and a steady beat.
This album demonstrates kick-ass soulful arrangements, and sweet vocals mixed with heart-moving ballads, and bona-fide, late-night club-styled hits. I could play “Poptronica Fantasy” over and over and never get tired of listening to it.
Standout songs for me are the first single off the album, “Fly To The Moon” plus “Right Now (feat. Lea Milf)”, “The Day After Tomorrow (Isabelle Lalande)”, “A New Life”, “Suddenly (feat. Maia Lic)” and “Asleep In A Subdued Heart ( feat. Audrey H). But right through all of their songs, Akuna Art has an infectious sound and spark to their music.
Akuna Art is guaranteed to keep you grooving. Their thumping beats and swirling synths revive the best moments from 80s synth sounds coated with the lushness of current world beats. They deserve to be big!
