Quality music made with guitars, drums, bass and vocals!
Stuck somewhere between 17 and 21, the Alternative collective called Modern Tribes are a young band with a bright and very long future indeed. Modern Tribes is Caleb Stein – Electric Guitar, Quinton Sisson – Drums, Evan Rendes – Vocals and Noah Roland – Bass. The boys are managed and produced by Monty Sisson.
Something’s been missing lately from mainstream music lately – namely smart, quality music made with guitars, drums, bass and vocals. Everything is robotic or technologic these days, which is fine but bands that play pure and simple heartfelt music are increasingly rare. Then I heard “Stop” by Modern Tribes and instantly got excited.
This song is totally different. Cool, unpretentious, simple, catchy and totally hypnotic. Next I’m hearing the catchy “Own It” with its brilliant jangly guitar strumming and that’s it for me! I’m glad to report that quality music made with guitars, drums, bass and vocals is alive and very, very well, and being kept safe by Modern Tribes.
Their songs are solid from front to back. It’s both raw and refined at the same time. It rocks, it’s jazzy, and it’s just about everywhere musically and somehow without ever being overproduced. The catchy songs that get your attention are replaced slowly by the more complex progressions of the rest of the tunes, like “Live In The Moment”, “All Night” and “Out On You”.
Modern Tribes, as a band seems to be headed in the right direction. And that’s away from technology towards musicology. Their songs are incredibly addictive. After I had listened to the songs a couple of times, I decided to give it a break and see if the magic would hold after a couple of days. It turned out my admiration for their music just grew!
I’m very into progressive rock and Jazz fusion. I’m a musician and a producer, and I like the complexity of those styles. So I often get bored by the 3 or 4 chord songs and all the8th note power chords on a cheap electric guitar often found on tons of Indie or Alternative Rock stuff. Modern Tribes do not bore me. Their music is filled with meat. Whether it’s the guitar riffs or the vocal hooks, there are too many great moments to pinpoint.
The songs are moderate, in terms of tempo while simultaneously being energetically enthusiastic in terms of atmosphere and sonic layering. It melts in your ears in remarkable fashion. The groovy sound of the guitar, the beat of the drums, the solid bass and the modulating vocals, all come together perfectly. But I warn you, Modern Tribes are something of an endangered species. Grab their unabashed guitar-based music as soon as you can!
