Every time I hear an Australian band, I always flip over backwards and say the same sensational things, but I’m afraid the rest of the world is just going to have to learn to live with it. Australians seem to have an automated built-in melody machine. No matter what rhythm or back beat their songs are produced upon, Aussies spit out the most meticulous melodies and harmonies on this planet. In over a year-and-a-half we have reviewed numerous Australian artists and I cannot for the life of me recall one act that was badly produced or didn’t have vocals that just shone like a diamond. The Hiding are no exception to the rule.
The Hiding are made up of Anthony Salce, Ryan Di Cecco, Adrian Perri and Joe Torre, who formed out of a previous project in the summer of 2010. This outfit saw them tour Australia supporting some of the country’s most respected national and international acts.

The Hiding’s debut self titled EP in April 2012 was produced by Jimi Maroudas (Kimbra, The Living End) and mixed in Los Angeles by world renowned mix engineer Mark Needham (The Killers). The two singles from this EP were spun across 140 college radio stations throughout the USA and Canada. Furthermore, another song was selected to feature in an episode of Australian reality TV show ‘The Block’, which was seen by over 1 million viewers.
The Hiding have also been selected to showcase as a band at this year’s CMJ festival in New York 2012, as they hit the studio again with Jimi Maroudas to produce two follow up singles that will be released in conjunction with their CMJ showcase.
The Hiding’s currently released singles are “Lantern Lights” and “Hopeless Heart.”
The Hiding have a refreshingly unique sound, that is such a nice change of pace in today’s music industry. Their perfect blend of light piano and guitar rock, smooth vocals and smart lyrics provide a kind of experience that may sound very familiar, but that you won’t quite find with any other band.
Their songs have a definite mood, that’s absolutely contagious. It’s exactly what pop music was intended to be, in the traditional sense of the word and the band will surely gain deserved popularity from these songs. The music itself has a classically beautiful tone combining piano and guitar with superbly crystal vocal deliveries.
If you’re interested in pop/rock music with substance, this band delivers. They bring a bucket full of great chord progressions along with beautiful melodies throughout their songs. Listen to “Hopeless Heart” to hear how The Hiding, together with their magnificent production team, work time-worn riffs and hooks into an aspirant Billboard Top 100 hit.
Good musicians know that music is emotion and how to tap into it. Good musicians free their artistic capabilities to express this emotion. Good musicians use rhythm to tap into beating hearts, words to evoke memories and melody to make the point. The Hiding are made up of such musicians.
Overall, The Hiding’s single releases, “Lantern Lights” and “Hopeless Heart” are great mainstream pop/rock songs. I can’t imagine anyone getting this and being disappointed. I think people of all different music tastes will find absolute appreciation of the very addictive chord progressions, the solid musicianship, the smooth sound production and those extremely catchy, soaring melody lines so typical of the music from OZ!
The Hiding deliver rich, unique pop music tunes…big time!
