Prosodi J is a self taught music composer and beat maker living is California(USA). In his own words: “Part-time megalomaniac, part-time sarcastic ass. Full time music lover.”

Prosodi J goes on to state that his interests are, “good music, family & money”. We’re not sure whether or not they’re strictly in that order but we get the message loud and clear.

The only sure thing, is that Prosodi J has released his latest album, ‘Ichi’ (One) under the TailorMadeNoise label.

Promatrix-pmauchant

‘Ichi’ is a blend of old and new instrumental Hip-hop, Breakbeat, and Jazz with influences from a vast variety of genres.

Beats, loops, samples, noises and effects, are all wrapped-up inside this instrumental album containing 14 tracks. Many of which have elaborate arrangements and very short titles indeed.

Like ‘Ego’ with it’s horns and layered strings over a typewriter-styled back-beat. Or ‘Hope’ with it’s lusciously wide-panned mix of cinematic string orchestrations. ‘Daylight’ tends to be more laid-back and world-music sounding with an insistent piano riff and acid jazz drumbeat.

The one-word titles don’t finish there, though.

British born beatmaker Prosodi J, who now resides in California.

‘Thought’ harbors similar musical nuances to ‘Daylight’, manifesting, however, a more domineering drumbeat. Whereas ‘Runnin’ which also moves along a parallel orchestral gauntlet, of strings and piano as the aforementioned tracks, displays an added sense or urgency in it’s rhythm.

Strangely enough, as the song titles on the ‘Ichi album lengthen, the songs become more interesting and complex.

Take for example ‘After Dark’ with it’s warm and buzzy keyboard-padded riffs and energetic drum breaks, or even the slow thumping rhythms and melodic interludes of ‘Be Cool’ and ‘Melodic Relaxation’.

At this point you’re thinking that, if logic takes it’s course, the four-word titled song, ‘Tears Of The Sky’ should be amongst the better tracks on ‘Ichi’?

And in fact this is absolutely the case, as ‘Tears Of The Sky’ proves to be the album highlight, with it’s big fat beat and ever present waves of swirling surround-strings.

Consequently the intrinsic value of ‘Forget The Past’ falls a touch under the previous track, but this time it is not because of the “short title” logic, but merely due to the actual track duration, which measures only a third of ‘Tears Of The Sky’.

However, to be frank, and from a personal view point, ‘After Dark’ clearly shares top accolades with ‘Tears Of The Sky’ on this album.

The album ‘Ichi’ sounds like the cry of a new generation rising slowly from within the hiphop masses and propagating a message of unity, without the use of words.

No false prophecies. No lies. No judgement. It’s the apotheosis, through music, of accepting who we are without any prejudice concerning the irrationalities of life.

‘Ichi’, is like a new born tree, making it’s way through a concrete wall.
