Pablo Iranzo: “#MsInfo” – an acutely talented songwriting observer of mankind

With protest songwriting at its conventional best, it doesn’t get any better than “#MsInfo”. Here, Pablo Iranzo pours his heart and soul into the track, aimed at “resist this orange psychopath”, as he puts it. The target is easy to discover when you realize that ‘orange’ refers to a hair color. Yes “#MsInfo” is yet another, in what will most probably be a very long line of anti-Trump songs in the coming months and years. Singer-songwriter Pablo Iranzo is of Spanish descent, but he is based out of Munich Germany. In the past couple of years we have reviewed some of his rocking releases, including “Eye Of The Storm” first released in 2013 and his most recent “Overdose”.

This time Pablo takes us on a darker, slower protest-type song that was extremely popular in the 60s with the explosion of the great singer-songwriters of our time. “#MsInfo” is successful because here Pablo looks at the world and reflects an honest truthful picture, from his point of view, of a man who is destined to influence events in this universe for years to come. And like him we know that there are many others too.

Right from the opening verse, sung over a morbid piano background, Iranzo digs in deep: “Don’t need a friend / ‘Cause I got my gun / Don’t check my background / I need my bomb / And baby you know / I’m ready for a one man show.”

The ultimate irony of life is on display here and presented in such a way that most people that like Pablo Iranzo’s will be responding to it in a positive way. What is that irony? The fact that everyone one of us with all of our personalities, feelings, emotions and identities are doomed if we for one second allow hate and discrimination to rule our existence.

We all are here for a short time and then we are gone. We know not where. The life force that created us and holds us will eventually destroy us. There is no understanding of this no matter what we say. But to have that come upon us prematurely through the doings of irresponsible politicians, and for reasons we are well aware of, should be intolerable to most clear-thinking people.

Pablo Iranzo’s “#MsInfo” describes such a man, who unfortunately is not a songwriting fantasy, but a real person: “I’ve got blind faith and I’m walking on water / Don’t need love, I’ve got hate and that shit don’t matter.”

While all but the top tier of troubadour icons, storytellers and conscious singer-songwriters have either retreated from public view or resorted to nostalgia, Pablo Iranzo is evolving his craft in front of our eyes, from a simple alternative rock artist to an acutely talented songwriting observer of mankind.

The nuances and the tiny shifts in Pablo’s vocal delivery paint imminent drama, as his voice weaves in and out of the slow and winding music, spotlighting the issues at hand. It’s really an astonishing work from Iranzo, offering insightful judgments which feel lucid, verbal and vital. You are obviously not obliged to agree with everything he is singing about in “#MsInfo”, as Pablo Iranzo will not build a wall around you under any circumstance!
