Mellah Nix: “Luther The Shooter” – highly invested in his own emotional integrity

The Innagalaktik Nerd, Mellah Nix has dropped his latest single “Luther The Shooter” from his new mixtape “Kaiju.Random.Tekneeq”, set for release at the end of March. The ATL rapper who once was an active resident artist at the Art Studio Miami for five years, lost his mother at only 7, when she was tragically murdered by his stepfather, forcing him and his siblings to grow up with their grandparents in Chicago. He remembers his mother once telling him “your world is your own, let people see what you see” – A phrase that has become part of his natural code of ethics. The Atlanta rapper is a prolific emoter, converting a wide array of intense feelings.

On the surface, and listening to the single, it would appear that “Luther The Shooter” has all of the necessary ingredients for Mellah Nix to cook up another compelling mixtape. First there’s the cryptic title “Kaiju.Random.Tekneeq” which you have to pronounce to get your tongue and mind around, and it’s there to enhance the expectations even before you hear any music.

On “Luther The Shooter” he seems fearless, with a temperament that comes through in sharp flows and a hard beat. There’s no definitive proof that Mellah Nix has even reached the apex of his craft, but he makes sure everyone knows he isn’t falling off an inch, making rap his own grand spectacle in the process.

Mellah Nix has a flawless chemistry with the beat that stems directly from a deep, intuitive understanding of what he is trying to transmit artistically. It’s only fitting, then, that Mellah’s sonic spirit brings to life his most intimate sensory experiences. Mellah Nix is highly invested in his own emotional integrity, even if it means disregarding rap’s money-making misogynous tropes, and he is, yes, honest, perhaps uncompromisingly so.

“Luther The Shooter” is a raw interpretation of heartfelt and expressive musings inspired by his homie named Luther, filtered through the mic and laid bare at the intersection of Hip-hop and rap. The track in its entirety is a fascinating foray into the creative mind that ambitiously pushes the limits of self-expression and transmission.

I logged onto his online catalog and listened to quite few tracks by Mellah Nix and the first thing that comes to mind is that each song ‘knows’ exactly what it is — a conduit for Mellah to articulate his rawest feelings, as it peruses motifs in an unapologetic way in order to convey his most profound expressions with the same intensity and passion with which he originally felt them.

Surely after putting everything into his art, sooner or later he will be seeing a return on that investment. Yes, Mellah’s world is his own, but he is letting people see what he sees!
