Last Ronin: “Incognito” – Intense, Deep and Rhythmic EDM!

Independent producer Last Ronin has been creating dubstep tracks for just over 2 years. Taking inspiration from artists such as KOAN sound, Seven Lions and Mitis, he has now set out to become a contender in the EDM spotlight! Does he succeed? The answers are to be found on “Incognito” the 4-track EP recently released by Last Ronin.

After hearing “Incognito” in its entirety I can assure you that you will be amazed. Last Ronin has a melodic signature sound that delivers energy and a passion that plays through each track. You can tell that he wasn’t out to just create a commercial sound. He took his skill set and created something beautiful and somewhat hypnotic.

Everything about “Incognito” just fits and flows so perfectly together. The timing of the music is impeccable, the drops, turns and buildups within each song is intense, deep, rhythmic, which probably comes from Last Ronin’s Dubstep experience, but it’s mainly the melodic explosion of synth sounds that impress. As most EDM falls flat when it comes to melody; it’s either overdone and cheesy, or almost non-existent. Last Ronin gets the balance just right, and he achieves this without the aid of any vocals.

One piece of advice; when you listen to “Incognito” give it the most volume you can because hearing the big banging beats and how much care and detail was put into each song makes it an euphoric experience.

From track 1, “Isolated”, Last Ronin weaves together some of the most intense sounds and delivers them right when they are needed. It is overwhelming to hear all the tiny additions to the drops in each of the songs. The range of each piece will really grab you, especially considering that they have no lead vocals. Songs like “Utopia” and “Unity”, are unforgettable in the way that they start and then move into an intertwined melody set upon deep basslines with upper echelon rhythms and beats.

If you really get charged by melodic electronic music, this EP introduces an abundance, but if you’re into rhythms and beats, that’s solidly here as well, and nowhere is it more hard-hitting than on the title track, “Isolated”, which can truly be described as epic. The dubstep elements also bring on a particular awesomeness to this track.

Last Ronin is a rising EDM producer with an interesting take on the genre. Instead of following the path that most popular dubstep producers have taken by relying upon massive saw-wave basslines and ‘noise’ elements, he instead uses them only as a supplement to every other electronic thing he does so well. “Incognito” is the kind of album that actually gives you hope for what dubstep’s influences can accomplish in EDM’s future.
