JDOS has been making what he calls “Inspirational Trap” music for several years, featuring with bigger named artists such as JBO, Dimillio, and Nicalyus. Mikey Moonro¢ks on the other hand, is new to the hip-hop scene, coming out with his first EP titled, “Master or Disaster” in September. He is also working on a mixtape featuring a conglomeration of Northwest artists titled “The Colony”, which is also to be released within the next couple of months.
Mikey and JDOS both work as vocalists, sound engineers, and as a chief organizers for MoonRockRecords, an independent label still in its developing stages, where they both manage other artists underneath the label as well. Now J-DOS has now released a track entitled “SHAMANS” featuring Mikey Moonro¢ks and Produced by UNIFY.
Too much rap today is repetitive, narcissistic, inane, and untruthful, while the beats are stale and reused a million times over. Enter JDOS and Mikey Moonro¢ks, who have an incredibly solid flow, amazing production and a strange kind of synergy that’s hard to explain. It really feels like these two are going to end up being one of those super productive partnerships where something magic happens when they work together.
UNIFY’s production is innovative, and most importantly, it feels like J-DOS’s voice and flow were specially engineered to fit this beat. With Mikey working alongside JDOS to drop hooks with haunting vocals, the combination provokes a feeling of nostalgia and hope.
“SHAMANS” is such an intensely inspirational track, and from the heart that it will have you spellbound. The song delivers an almost spiritual satisfaction that comes from listening to its stoner-like lyrics: “Come and get high with me/Fly in the sky with me/Exhale from your lungs as your chest becomes numb…,” doesn’t leave too much to the imagination. It’s this way of looking at things and providing a beautiful, meditative and profound perspective that makes JDOS so unique.
It’s nice to hear something new, fresh, and something that still retains a good amount of class while staying catchy. This is what J-DOS has achieved with “SHAMANS” featuring Mikey Moonro¢ks, and produced by UNIFY. It’s an extraordinarily well-written song; it has an essence, a spark, a genuine truthfulness and relatedness that inspires, and it’s impeccably executed to boot!
