Ashley J: “Dare Ya” – tender, earnest and surprisingly mature!

The Orlando-grown multi-talented singer/songwriter, Ashley J is a University of North Texas Bachelor’s Degree graduate with incessant musical dreams. She has crossed from Country to Pop, while hitting the Billboard Dance Charts with her first single “One and One”, as well as grabbing the very top spot with her follow-up single, “Cali”. Now she is ready to take the next step with her brand new single, “Dare Ya”.

“‘Dare Ya’ is such a special song for me,” explains Ashley J, continuing, “I tend to write all of my music based off of current or past experiences in my life, and this song really tackled some feelings. Lyrically, I wrote the song based off of a compilation of text messages and letters I have received that really hit home for me, and motivated me to be the person that I am and want to be. So putting these feelings and words of wisdom into this song really gives homage to those I have it dedicated to…”

This girl is beautiful has an amazing voice and needs to let herself shine. Ashley J has an impressive voice and strong physical presence in her videos. The song is well produced and makes an excellent presentation of her musical talents.

Her sound seems to have progressed in a direction that her voice was expecting. And some thanks would have to go to the President of Electra Star Group, Michael Blakey, who seems to have pointed Ashley J in the right direction.

“Dare Ya”  is very mature, deep, and profound in many of the song lyrics that only a person that has grown up and taken stock of their alacrities and adversities can express and deliver with such sincerity and honesty like Ashley J does on this track. To the point where she is able to prompt a loved one to stand up and take stock of whom they really are:

“I can see, I can see you’re falling apart
The pieces of who you are
You’re not who you used to be
Honey you, you just live inside your head
You can break but you don’t bend
you don’t have to hide from me

You weren’t made to fight alone
I dare ya to get up and go
dare ya to love me recklessly
Oh honey, just Take a chance
let it go”

Altogether, this is one-hundred-percent Ashley J’s best work: to me it feels much more personal and seasoned, not just in terms of content but it terms of perspective, and her voice sounds the best and most interesting it ever has. She is tremendous at conveying emotion and she does it so well on this love song. I really was blown away by how tender, earnest and surprisingly mature, both the song and Ashley J’s performance is on “Dare Ya”.
